How Hypnosis Works

Many people think of hypnosis as a form of sleep, the old image of hypnosis is a guy in a cape swinging his pocket watch saying you are going to sleeeeeep. In fact hypnosis has little to do with sleep and is most powerful when we are awake. Hypnosis feels like having a superb daydream, but is far more powerfully beneficial.

Hypnosis works by channelling our attention away from the logical, everyday world into an experience of the imagination, the world of our own mind. It is a very enjoyable and beneficial experience which is totally natural. In hypnosis you are completely in control and can wake up any time you like.

The Mind Body Link

Its an amazing fact that when you get the flu your runny nose, headache and tiredness are not caused by the flu virus itself, but these symptoms are actually caused by your bodies own immune response. Your mind makes your body feel ill because its vital that you rest while you fight off the underlying problem, in this case the flu virus. Its a bit like saying that its not the intruder that wakes up the house, but the burglar alarm!

Like the body, the mind also has an alarm. People over–eat, smoke, drink, blush, panic, have phobias, feel stressed, and any number of other things in response to unknown and bottled up emotions. Just as taking pick–me–ups does not cure the flu, simply treating symptoms does not help the underlying emotional cause. Hypnotherapy is a fast and effective way to discover that underlying emotional cause, and therefore remove the symptom completely and permanently.

2 Forms of Hypnotherapy

I practice 2 forms of hypnotherapy

1) Suggestion Therapy:

Suggestion Therapy is the type of hypnotherapy practiced by most hypnotherapists. When you hear about someone stopping smoking via hypnosis, or hear hypnotherapy use in the media, it is most likely they are talking about Suggestion Therapy. During the session you will be relaxed and given suggestions that you can achieve the thing that you are aiming for, (like stopping smoking, or passing a test, or getting a new job). These suggestions with stick in your mind and effect your feelings and motivation afterwards (this is why it is sometimes called post–hypnotic suggestion).

Suggestion Therapy can be very effective. It is best suited to short term benefits (like driving test nerves) because the results are temporary. How long post hypnotic suggestions last depends on the individual and the type of benefits they are seeking. Remember, suggestion therapy is like using a pick–me–up when you have a cold. It mitigates the symptom, but does not tackle the cause – for that you need hypnoanalysis.

2) Hypnoanalysis:

Hypnoanalysis is a truly amazing form of therapy. Hypnoanalysis aims to RESOLVE the CAUSE of unconscious anxiety, FREEING THE SUFFERER FROM THE SYMPTOM FOR GOOD!

Hypnoanalysis also gives people lasting confidence and self–knowledge. A permanent sense of well being and the feeling of liberation. The power to get on with their life.
